Urban Suburban

Out into the wilds of western Mexico City to pick A up from a sleepover. It took us long enough to get there, but once we arrived at the entrance of the gated community, we had  another 10 minute drive along quiet residential roads, past nice looking clubhouses, over sleeping policemen, and finally another security gate to reach their tower block. Lovely place, with fabulous view of the hills to the west of the city.
Sometimes I think it would be nice to live in a roomier, quieter, more secure place. For the past 15 years we've lived in the centres of metropolises - Tokyo, Bangkok, Beijing and now Mexico City - hemmed in by people, offices, shops, cafes, buildings, cars, culture and the paraphernalia, good & bad, of urban life. But all things considered, that's the way I (and luckily we) like it.
