Tony Cragg phones me from the
installation in Shanghai . Problem: the galleries still look
like a building site. “We can’t do anything. Have them call us when the museum’s
ready and we’ll come back”. Cue: a day of fire-fighting which gets progressively
more positive, and I feel I can go to see the first night of small theatre
company Idle Motion’s 3-week China tour which kicks off this evening. It’s a
play called Vanishing Horizons which I saw in Edinburgh last summer. Nice, inventive
production interleaving a daughter-mother-grandmother relationship with the
history of female aviation.
